Terms of Service
These are the terms for using WholeBudget: the Mac app, the iPhone app and the optional WholeBudget account and cloud. They are written to be read.

A licence to use the apps
You may use the Mac app, and the iPhone app under Apple’s standard terms, for your own household’s budgeting. Don’t copy it, resell it or take it apart beyond what the law lets you.
Plus is sold and managed by Apple
The free trial, renewal, cancelling and refunds all go through Apple. WholeBudget never sees your card, and we don’t decide refunds.
AI can be wrong
Reads and suggestions from AI can be mistaken. Check them before you rely on them.
Not financial, tax or legal advice
WholeBudget describes your own records. It doesn’t tell you what to do with your money, your taxes or your legal affairs.
Your data is yours, and encrypted
What your household syncs is end-to-end encrypted so we can’t read it. The privacy page explains what is kept and where.
Your consumer rights stay
Nothing here limits the rights you have under the consumer protection law of your province, including Quebec.
The details
Who we are
WholeBudget is made and run by Alexander (Alex) Bisgould, an individual in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Alexander Bisgould, and “you” means the person using WholeBudget.

The Mac app: your licence
The Mac app is downloaded from our website, not from the App Store, so Apple’s standard licence does not cover it. This licence does. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Mac app on Macs you own or control, for your own household’s budgeting.
You may not sell, rent, sublicense or share the app, remove its notices, or use it to build a competing service. You may not reverse-engineer, decompile or take the app apart, except to the extent the law of your country says you may despite this limit. The licence ends if you break these terms, and you can end it any time by deleting the app. Parts of the app are open-source software under their own licences; those licences apply to those parts.
The iPhone app
The iPhone app is licensed to you under Apple’s standard end-user licence agreement for apps from the App Store. These terms do not replace it. They cover the service around the app: the optional account, your household, WholeBudget AI and Plus. If the two ever conflict about the app itself, Apple’s licence wins; about the service, these terms do.
Your account and your household
WholeBudget works fully without an account. If you create one, you sign in with Apple, and you are responsible for what happens under it. Give us accurate information and keep your devices secure.
An account belongs to a household. Everyone in a household can see what it shares: the cards and their last four digits, the receipts and their details, and the names of the devices that are signed in. Only invite people you are happy to share that with. A household’s owner can remove members, and any member can leave. You can delete your account in the app at any time; the privacy page describes what that removes.
Plus, trials and payments
Plus, and the AI top-ups, are sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple takes the payment, and Apple’s terms govern the purchase. When a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription at the end unless you cancel before it ends. A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it.
You cancel in your iPhone’s Settings, under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions. Refunds are decided by Apple: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. We don’t take payments ourselves and we don’t promise refunds, but if Apple refunds a purchase, Plus for your household ends accordingly. A code from the WholeBudget team can also turn Plus on, and we may end it with reasonable notice.
Features that come with Plus may change over time. Rights you have under the law, including any right to a refund or to cancel, are not affected by this section.
AI can make mistakes
WholeBudget uses AI to read receipts and paystubs, sort transactions, suggest categories and write summaries. AI can misread a number, miss an item, put something in the wrong category or state something that is not true. It is a helper, not a guarantee. Check what it produced, especially before you rely on it for money you owe, claim or report. You are responsible for your own records and decisions.
Not financial, tax or legal advice
WholeBudget organises and describes your own records. Its insights, forecasts, budgets and AI answers are information, not financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and are not a recommendation about what you should do. For advice about your situation, talk to a qualified professional.
Your data, privacy and encryption
Your receipts, budgets and photos live on your own devices. If you use the optional account and cloud sync, what your household syncs is encrypted on your devices with a key we never receive, so neither we nor our hosting providers can read it. If you lose every device and the recovery key, we cannot get your data back.
The privacy page says exactly what leaves your devices, where it is kept, for how long and who can see it. We follow it.
Using WholeBudget fairly
Please don’t use WholeBudget, or its account and AI service, to break the law, to harm or harass anyone, to attack, overload or probe our servers, to get around the limits on AI use or on Plus, to resell the AI service, or to upload content you have no right to use. We may limit or suspend an account or a household that does, and where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first. Suspending an account never reaches the data on your own devices.
No promises beyond the law, and our liability
WholeBudget is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard on it, but we can’t promise it will be error-free, always on, or fit for a particular purpose, and we can’t promise what an AI provider will return.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost savings, missed deadlines, penalties or interest, and our total liability for anything connected with WholeBudget is limited to what you paid us (through Apple) in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer protection law of your province, including Quebec, or excludes liability that the law does not let us exclude, such as for fraud or gross negligence.
If we stop the service
If we ever decide to end the account, cloud or AI service, we will give you at least 90 days’ notice in the app and on this page, and you will be able to export your data. The Mac and iPhone apps keep working with the data on your devices, and “Export everything” on the Mac works without an account.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. When we do, we announce it in the app and on this page, and the date at the top moves. If a change is significant, we will say so before it applies. If you keep using WholeBudget after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms; if you don’t agree, you can stop using it and delete your account.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute goes to the courts of Ontario, except that if you are a consumer living in Quebec, the consumer protection law of Quebec and the courts of your home district still apply to you, and nothing here takes that away. If a part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
